As sometimes happens on this coast an interesting sky follows a day of unrelenting overcast and ‘flat’ light. What had promised to be perfect conditions for a dazzling sunset provided the impetus to take a quick walk to my painting spot overlooking the cape, but a few minutes after arriving in glorious lighting, the sunset died as I set up my gear. But all was not lost. As the light faded and dusk approached the sky went through various moody transformations each as beautiful as the last. On the horizon the distinctive, craggy, silhouette of the Isles of Scilly was visible etched with a razor-sharp clarity in the extremely transparent, clear air.
