About This Blog

I thought a blog would be as good a place as any in which to record my ( sometimes obsessive ) attempts at painting ‘en plein air’,  any odd bits of coastline that take my fancy, within short walking distance of my home in West Penwith, Cornwall.

I often paint the same motif, which is, I guess, where the ‘obsessive’ part comes in, no matter what the weather and time of year. The ever changing play of light and state of the ocean  ‘on the edge’ — the place where land and sea meet — provides endless opportunities for interpretation: no two paintings of the same subject will ever be truly alike.

My hope is that this blog will provide a record of my progress — or lack of it– in the discipline of learning to observe and record what I see, and, through the act of painting, perhaps also gain a deeper understanding of the world around me.
