Sunset over the Castle, 1st September 2015, 8.20pm

Another nice sunset after a fine day. Trying to second guess whether the sky conditions are going to generate a good display at sunset or sunrise is more a matter of luck than anything else. Often there appears to be a good run up but the display just fizzles, at other times a brilliant sunset appears out of the most unpromising of circumstances. This evening was no exception but things worked out nicely in the end, if only fleetingly. I spent a little more time resolving this sketch on site than I would normally do,  trying to slow down and observe a bit more carefully the effects as they appear.

Haybales at sunset, July 30th, 2015, 8.40pm

While not strictly on the coastline ( although you can see long views of the ocean from these fields ) I always look forward to the re-appearance of haybales at this time of year as they can be such fascinating objects to paint; the shadowed sides often dramatically picking up sky colour which can make for very interesting and unexpected colour effects at sunrise and sunset.

Evening Sunlight at Porth Nanven, 3rd June, 2015, 8.25pm

After the recent high winds and unsettled rainy conditions it looks as though some decent sunny weather is on the cards, at least for the next couple of days. It was a rare pleasure to be able to go down to Porth Nanven in perfect, almost wind-less conditions, to try and catch some late evening sunshine at high tide.
