Plein air, oil on board, approx. 15 x 24cm

Virtually every pine tree along this stretch of  coastline has been badly affected by the severe winter storms of  the past few months. While the sheltered leeward sides appear green as usual, the westward ocean-facing sides have been burnt by wind and wind-driven salt, turning the pine needles from a rich green to a vibrant russet brown. I have not seen anything similar in the six years I’ve been here.  It will be interesting to document how the pines recover as the year progresses.
